The Venaria Reale, one of the most magnificent Savoy residences and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was designed in 1659 by Amedeo di Castellamonte as a hunting lodge for Charles Emmanuel II. Castello di Rivoli, perched on a hill overlooking the town of Rivoli near Turin, is one of Piedmont’s most striking Savoy residences, originally built in the Middle Ages and renovated in the seventeenth century. Today it houses the Museum of Contemporary Art of Turin, one of Italy’s most important modern art institutions, offering visitors a unique blend of historic architecture and internationally renowned contemporary works.

The castle’s origins likely date to the twelfth century, when the San Martino dynasty was rising in the Canavese area, and it was transformed into an elegant residence in 1646 under Count Filippo San Martino, following a design by Amedeo di Castellamonte. At the same time, formal gardens and a symmetrical park with a central water feature were created, and in 1939 the castle was converted into a museum.

Palazzo Carignano was commissioned by Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy-Carignano and designed by Guarino Guarini, who began construction in 1679, creating one of the most striking buildings of seventeenth-century Italy with its distinctive curved façade and brick exterior. Today, the palace houses two museums as well as the headquarters of the Regional Museums Directorate.
